Workshop on Bus Rapid Transit system at CBE Dar es salaam Campus. Rationale behind this training is to jointly explore what effects disaster based disruptions of the BRT have and what can be done about it in the future
Dar es Salaam’s bus rapid transit (BRT) system has been in operation for four years now and has truly transformed public transport in Dar es Salaam. Thousands of commuters depend on BRT every day by connecting communities along the existing routes with the city centre. Likewise, private businesses and public institutions rely on their employees to efficiently reach their places of work. And local bus operators, shops and street vendors have also adjusted their operations to the BRT routes and stations.
Given the central role of the BRT within Dar es Salaam’s transport system and its multiple linkages with other sectors and communities, it is of paramount importance to ensure the reliable and safe operation of the BRT at all times. This is a great challenge especially at times of natural disasters like urban floods, as frequently experienced in recent years.
