WHY THIS TRAINING ?
Tanzania has been suffered with low skills for employees and graduates due the absence of linkages between the imparted education and employers and business industry needs. The recruitment work agencies surveyed reported a general lack of targeted education and frequent major discrepancies between candidates’ profiles and the skills in many private companies, Civil societies organization and the government sector. Many of the graduates and employees either do not perform well or do not meet their works performance targets

TRAINING OBJECTIVES
Training goals: The trainee will possess the required knowledge and skills required to process payment, process receivables, taxation knowledge and skills and preparation of financial statements including the practical aspects of Entrepreneurial skills;

- To prepare various Accounting Reports such as comprehensive income statement, statement of financial position, statement of cash flow, statement of cash in equity notes, etc

Advanced Training Course on Customizing and Using Koha Library Management System

COURSE OBJECTIVES
A three days training, hands-on course in which three important modules of Koha will be covered in details namely (1) Koha installation and customization; (2) circulations management and (3) cataloging, serials and reports management. Instructors will introduce all aspects of Koha administration with a focus on setting up the system for your library. Important global and local preferences and how they affect the options available to each library will be introduced. Set-up and administration of circulation, patrons, cataloging and acquisitions and serials will also be covered. Each attendee will access a Koha server using their own Wi-Fi equipped laptop or PC. No previous Linux experience is required, but Basic IT Skills experience is strongly encouraged.
COURSE CONTENTS
Specifically, the workshop will cover the following Contents:
1. Know the basic workflow and components of a Koha system.
2. Understand the steps involved in importing data into Koha.
3. Understand when to use Global System Preferences versus local library preferences.
4. Enable to set up patrons including defining patron types, defining fields, defaults and
Authorized values.
5. Enable to set-up circulation rules.
6. Enable to configure cataloging and acquisitions set-up.
7. Obtain experience on using Administration features that are useful after initial system set-up.
8. Enable to access library data using reports and queries.

Weighbridges Operations and management From 24 -28th June, 2019

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Tanzania has hundreds of weighbridges operating in various sectors across the country especially in manufacturing industries, for trade transactions, road safety and axle road control purposes etc. Given this good number of these weighbridges, many people have been employed to operate these instruments in various capacities such as Weighbridge Operators, Weighbridge Shift In charges, and Weighbridge Supervisors. In fact, weighbridges have become one of the major source of employment in the country. However, there is one big shortcoming - there is the lack of skilled human resources. This is due to the fact that, as of current the country does not have any specialized training in weighbridges and weighbridges operation and management. This problem has been the underlying factor for poor performance and corruption in many weighbridges stations.

In order to optimize performance in weighbridges, weighbridges personnel must have necessary skills. In fact, they must have a good understanding of technical, administrative, ethical and legal aspects of weighbridges operations. This short course is therefore intending to offer these necessary knowledge and skills to the current and the potential weighbridge personnel.


LEARNING OUTCOME

This short course is intending to impart the following outcomes to the participants:

a. Good understanding of the metrology of weighbridges, this includes metrological terms pertaining to weighbridges, principles of construction of weighbridges, accuracy, uncertainties of measurements, sources of errors and good maintenance etc.
b. Acquiring skills in making weighbridge and related measurements including dimensional measurements of vehicles and Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM), vehicle configurations etc.
c. Good understanding of administration of weighbridges activities including measurements recording, charging of fees, penalties and report writing.
d. A good understanding of relevant legislations especially the Road Traffic Act and the Weights and Measures Act.
e. A good understanding of ethics generally and applied ethics in weighbridges in particular.

This course is intended for current employees in weighbridges but also for potential or those who desires to work with weighbridges in various industries such as cement, fisheries and food milling industries. Demand for non-consultancy services in Tanzania Mainland, increases as far the pace for industrial innovations is concern. And the ones, who largely expect to deliver the same, are the local suppliers. BIBLIOMETRICS AND SCIENTOMETRICS ANALYSIS FOR SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION SHORT COURSE, 2nd to 5th July, 2019

Course Description:
Bibliometric and Scientometric analysis is a methodology used for measuring science, technology and innovation. This type of analysis focuses on studying growth pattern of publications, citation analysis, calculate the impact factor of a journal title, development of scope and spectrum of any area of research. This methodology is popularly used for ranking of scholarly output of researchers and institutions and identifying the centres of excellence in academia.
This training course is intended for researchers, research managers, students, lecturers, policy and decision makers at the respective universities and librarians seeking to understand and gain skills in the use of bibliometrics and related metrics (i.e. informetrics, scientometrics and altmetrics) in the evaluation of research or offer research support in institutions of higher learning.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the program, participants will be able to:

• Understand and apply basic publication benchmarking techniques such as publication counts and citation analysis in research evaluation and other contexts
• Identify and interpret research or bibliometrics indicators such as citation-based statistics (e.g. h-index, g-index, i10-index, impact factor, eigen factor, article influence score, cites per article, RG Score, patent scores) for assessing research impact
• Compare and appreciate the strengths and limitations of different informetrics data sources such as Web of Science citation indexes, Scopus, Google Scholar, African Citation Index, PubMed and social media academic platforms such as Mendeley, Cite Like, Impact Story, Research Gate, and so on
• Develop independent methods to retrieve data that analyzes and/or quantifies scientific outputs other than publications as well as describing societal impact of research
• Validate, value, and visualize the results of evaluation of societal impact in order to make meaning of research outputs to universities and society
• Appreciate the role of social media and other open access platforms in improving online visibility of publications and hence their research impact
• Evaluate research published and disseminated through open access platforms such as Research Gate, Google Scholar, Academia.edu, Impact Story, etc.

Systematic Review From 26th to 29st March, 2019


The main objective of this workshop is to equip participants with necessary hands-on skills to conduct systematic review and Meta-analysis. Participants will gain knowledge and skills on how to synthesize evidence and use it to inform policy and decision making.
 The evidence for making policy, programme and practice decisions is best based on careful analyses and syntheses of multiple studies.

    Overview of systematic review process & reporting standards and guidelines for systematic reviews
    Problem formulation, and developing review questions in the African context
    Development of protocol & identifying protocol databases
    Finding sources of evidence from structured and unstructured databases and sources of grey literature
    Construction of complex and comprehensive search strategies and text mining in online databases & updating literature and tools for managing references
    Study selection process & data extraction process
    Covidence tool for managing the systematic review process
    Quality assessment, risk of bias and meta-analysis for systematic reviews
