THE CBE ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTRE (CBE-EC)

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The College of Business Education (CBE) has a unique history, its ethos and development reflective of its close links with the Business Community, Culture and Economy of Tanzania.

The CBE Entrepreneurship Centre (CBE-EC) was established with an aim of focusing on strengthening and promoting outreach interventions in Tanzania with an overall goal of gradually but adequately inculcating and promoting an entrepreneurial spirit and culture, and empowering Tanzania small, medium and micro businessmen and women with managerial competences for better performance and competitiveness nationally and internationally.

Through CBE- EC, the College will join hands with other similar public and private institutions to support the government to enhance national economic and social development (and reduce poverty) through promotion of the private sector which is regarded as an engine of economic growth. As a project, the CBE-EC was established in 2002(then known as ESBDC) with technical support from the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

It core Mission and Objectives were crafted and ensured in CBEs Second Strategic Corporate Plan 2005 -2010 and CBE Vision 2015 in June 2005. The role of the Centre is similar to other institutions as stipulated in the National Small and Medium Enterprises Development Policy put in place by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in April, 2003.

THE MISSION OF CBE-EC

To promote entrepreneurship culture and support the creation and development of business in Tanzania, by providing training; counseling; research and related functions to the Business Community.

THE FUNCTIONS OF CBE-EC ARE:·       

a)      To advance, expand, transmit, enhance and preserve entrepreneurial knowledge for the benefit of existing and aspiring entrepreneurship

b)      To Promotion a learning culture and pursuit of knowledge and truth entrepreneurship and stimulate intellectual activity through provision of training in entrepreneurship and small business development.

c)       To provide business advisory services to entrepreneurs and SME Managers.

d)      To prepare a cadre of competent, well qualified and property oriented professionals/ trainers of high academic and moral integrity in the guest for filling the gap for entrepreneurial knowledge in the country.

e)      To conduct training, research and consultancy on entrepreneurship and small business development.

f)      To serve as an entrepreneurship and small business development information resource Center for SMEs.

g)      To conduct and perform any other activities as may be inconformity with the Mission and Objectives of CBE in general and CBE-EC in particular.

THE EXTERNAL MARKETING FOR CBE-EC

The Centre provides training, research, advisory and consulting services in area of entrepreneurship and small business enterprises development to different individuals and organizations e.g. TCCIA, etc.

THE INTERNAL MARKET FOR CBE- EC

CBE – EC plays a cross-development role in the College of Business Education (CBE) by developing capacity in other departments to train and   encourage students to become entrepreneurship through which they become job creators. Income generators and poverty reduces.

PARTNERSHIP AND COLLABORATION

CBE-EC through the College enjoys strong partnership and collaboration with local. National and International partners, the University of Jonsuu-Finland, Embassy of Finland, Embassy of Netherlands, Maastricht school of Management, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, University of Dar es Salaam, NBAA, NBMM, NACTE University Commission (formerly HEAC) and others.

The Centre through its plan will continue to forge lines with local and international University/ Partners to active its goal.

The Centre has highly trained and experience trainer, consultants and researchers with extensive knowledge of the Tanzanian SME Sector.  This makes CBE to be respected in the whole of East Africa.  Value added is guaranteed because of expertise from different CBE departments and also outsourced from other organizations.
