College of Business Education -Library

The College of business education has four libraries one in each branch. These libraries are the main library in the main campus, one in Dodoma, Mwanza and Mbeya campuses. Capacity of the library in the main library is about 25,830 Volumes of 5,215 tittles.

Library Collection:

The collection is in five major parts namely, the general collection with its major components being textbooks and few journals, Special Reserve for the tutors/lecturers, Legal and Industrial Metrology and the Reference Collection. The book stock is classified and arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme 22nd edition and catalogued according to the Anglo American Cataloguing Rules (AACR) 2nd edition Revised in 2002.

Electronic resources:

CBE library provides access to extensive resources in electronic format which complement the library collection. The college library is a member of consortium of Tanzania University and research library (COTUL). Being a member the college subscribing various databases and online journal including Cambridge journal online (:http/journals.cambridge.org); Emerald (httpp//emiraldinsight.com; Sage: http//online.sagepub.com; JSTOR: (Htpp//jstor.org; University of Chicago Journals (www.journalsuchicago.edu and other many scholarly databases.

 

CBE library has three operational sections:

(i)         Readers’ Services Section

 

This section coordinates all reader services within the library and organizes the library stock and coordinates book circulation

(ii)    Library and Technical services section

This section is responsible for book selection, acquisition and processing of new library materials. Also it is dealing with evaluation of book stocks and automation of the library catalogue. In addition, this section responsible for book binding and provides audio visual aids services which support the teaching function.

(iii)     Library   and Information Management section

This section is responsible for the provision of reference services to readers, selection, acquisition and processing of periodicals/journals, students and staff research reports and theses, reference books and organizing information in the shelves. Other functions include: overseeing library computers and provision of information search training to library users both manually and electronically

  Library Users:

The College of Business Education is a higher learning institution. Therefore, scholars, researchers, scientists, consultants, professionals and other visitors who seek higher education or research information or references are welcome to visit the College library.

 Borrowing / Lending Services:

 Lending service/borrowing of library materials for home use/or outside the College library, is the right accorded to registered library users only. Only the registered library users/members can borrow one to four (1-4) books for home use in not more than a 14 days period. An identity card must be shown upon borrowing a book. A borrower is free to renew the borrowing once, if a particular charged text is very useful as its holder feels or has not completed the assignment he is supposed to do. Books, like other information resources are the property of the College library. A user who borrows a book(s) or material from the library should return it in time. A charge of two hundred shillings (Tshs. 200) will be instituted to each overdue day. At the end of each year a library clearance form is provided to be completed by   students before being given his/her certificate and statement of results. Retirement benefits will be withheld for employees unless the library material(s)/book(s) are recovered.

Library Rules and Guide

The library has a statutory rules and regulations which is guiding the service provided. The rule and regulations operates for the CBE community as a whole. Users/ Members The potential and entitled users of the College Library Resources are the College Society composed of the undergraduate and postgraduate students, teaching staff, non-teaching employees and part-time tutors/ lecturers. The College Library extends its services to external users/visitors and the public as a whole.

 Opening Hours

 Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

 Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

 Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon

 On Public Holidays the library will be closed.
