Awareness Seminar on Ethical Usage of Artificial Intelligence

The Directorate of Students’ Services at Dar es Salaam Campus organized an awareness seminar on Ethical Usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which was held on 24th February 2026. The seminar was facilitated by Mr. Kelvin Andrew Mbuya, and attended by 184 students.

The main objective of the seminar was to equip students with knowledge and competencies on the ethical, responsible, and effective use of Artificial Intelligence tools in academic and professional contexts, while promoting critical thinking and academic integrity.

The seminar covered the following key thematic areas:

  • Concept and evolution of Artificial Intelligence and its applications in education and business
  • Ethical principles in AI usage, including fairness, accountability, transparency, privacy, and inclusivity
  • Academic integrity and risks associated with the misuse of AI tools, such as plagiarism and over-reliance
  • Misinformation and bias in AI-generated content and the need for critical evaluation
  • Data privacy and security when using AI platforms
  • Practical approaches for responsible and effective use of AI tools in learning

The seminar was conducted through interactive presentations, group discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. Students actively participated by sharing their experiences with AI tools and engaging in discussions on real-life scenarios, such as the use of AI in assignments and research. This participatory approach enhanced understanding of ethical considerations, clarified misconceptions, and encouraged responsible use of AI technologies in both academic and personal contexts.
