Awareness Seminar on Motorcycle Safety at Dodoma Campus

The Directorate of Students’ Services at Dodoma Campus organized an awareness seminar on Motorcycle Safety, which was held on 30th January 2026. The seminar was facilitated by Sergeant James Msengi of the Tanzania Police Force, Traffic Division – Public Education Desk, Dodoma.

The main objective of the seminar was to raise awareness among students on road safety practices and reduce the incidence of motorcycle-related accidents involving students as riders, passengers, and pedestrians.

The seminar covered the following key thematic areas:

  • Common causes of motorcycle accidents among students, including inexperience, reckless riding, speeding, riding under the influence, and use of mobile devices while riding
  • Risks faced by students as passengers, particularly lack of protective gear and dependence on riders’ behavior
  • Road safety risks for students as pedestrians, especially at crossings where motorists may fail to yield
  • Importance of wearing helmets for both riders and passengers and use of reflective or visible clothing
  • Need for formal rider training and adoption of defensive riding techniques
  • Importance of speed control, focused riding, and time management to avoid aggressive driving
  • Safe road usage practices, including patience at crossings and ensuring visibility before crossing

The seminar was conducted through interactive presentations and discussions. Students actively participated by asking questions and sharing their experiences, which enhanced their understanding of motorcycle safety practices and general road traffic rules, thereby promoting safer behaviour among students within and outside the College environment.
