About the Course?
The short course on Entrepreneurial Sport Event Management & Organisation (SEMO) offers an overview of the key tasks that sports managers need to successfully plan, communicate and operate when organising sport events. The module focuses on the specific challenges faced by sport event organisers, as well as the knowledge needed to successfully manage a wide range of sports events, ranging from local to international such as World Championships, Continental Games and the Olympic Games. The CBE SM&O programme allows individuals from the working world to gain all of the benefits of a university course and education on a focused topic, and in a condensed time frame. The seminar brings together academicians with International Sport expertise in the CBE network to chart out how sport events are organised. This programme is both pertinent and practical and recognises the increased expectations of spectators, media and sponsors at major events.
PARTICIPANTS
The CBE Sport Event Management & Organisation short course participants are professional, part-time or volunteer sports managers and organisers of various sports events, as well as staff from local and regional sports organisations looking to successfully lead and manage a complex sport event.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TO BE ACQUIRED
** Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with events clients from diverse backgrounds
** Ability to develop ‘partner’ relationships when organizing events
** Strong organizational and decision-making skills
** Ability to deliver events to the highest standards with close attention to detail
** Financial management, budgeting, and planning skills for a successful event
** Ability to respond and solve problems on the spot Strengths in prioritizing tasks/workload and handling multiple projects
