Edda Lwoga Profile

Prof Lwoga is the Rector of the College of Business Education (CBE). She is also a Professor in the Department of ICT and Mathematics at CBE. She holds a a PhD in Information Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Master of Science in Engineering Management (Industrial and Information Technology), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Scientific Computing from the University of Dar es salaam.

Prof Lwoga has published more than 100 publications in leading international journals, conference proceedings, and books in the areas of ICTs, indigenous knowledge, and knowledge management. Prof Lwoga is involved as a Chairperson and a Member in a number of key National and International committees, boards and professional organizations, including: EAC Regional Experts’ Working Group (Ewg) On Digital Health, Data, Technologies  Innovations (DIDATI), UNESCO/UNTWIN Research Network on Green Skilling and Capacity Development for Sustainable Communities in Africa, Research4Life Capacity Building & Communication Committees, Association of Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T), African Health Information and Library Association (AHILA), and Campbell Collaboration- Information Retrieval Methods Group.

Prof Lwoga has worked as a researcher with local and international organizations and awarded research grants from funders such as: Academy of Finland (Finland), European Union - Erasmus Global Mobility programme, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education in Finland, Swedish International Development Cooperation- Sida (Sweden), Swedish Program for ICT in Developing Regions - SPIDER (Sweden), Department for International Development - DFID (UK), CODESRIA (Senegal), Medical Library Association (USA), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (USA), Elsevier Foundation (Netherlands), British Council (UK), Carnegie Mellon University (USA), and  Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH). Prof Lwoga has consulted for academic institutions, national governments and international organizations, such as the United Nations Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries (UNTBLDC), University of Minnesota, Cornell University, Information Training and Outreach Center for Africa (ITOCA), East Africa Community (EAC), and East African Health Research Commission (EAHRC). She is the external supervisor for PHD thesis at different Universities, including University of Oslo, University of Cape Town (UCT), University of South Africa (UNISA), University of Zululand (UNIZULU), Health Institute Carlos III - National School of Health), Spain, Mzuzu University, Open University of Tanzania, and University of Dodoma.
