AWARENESS SEMINAR ON DRUG ABUSE, HIV/AIDS AND HEPATITIS B

During the period under review, the Directorate of Students’ Services organized an awareness seminar on HIV/AIDS, drug abuse and Hepatitis B. The seminar was held on 26th January 2024 and 189 students attended. The facilitators were Mr. Dezderi Tumbo, Head of Section for Public Relations and Ms. Christina Rweshabura, Legal Officer from Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA). Among others, the seminar covered the following subject matters:
HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis
•    Causes of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B
•    Transmission of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis
•    Prevention 
•    Treatment  
Drug abuse
•    Type of illicit drugs which includes cocaine, heroin, crack, Marijuana etc
•    Groups of drugs which include stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens etc
•    Causes of drug abuse/addiction
•    How to recognize a person abusing drugs
•    Community implications of drugs, punishment for drug trafficking/abuse and where to report if you know those involved in drug trafficking
The seminar was well received by students who asked questions and wanted the seminar to be conducted again because they still wanted to learn more.
