Latifa Mohammed Khamis, born on October 12, 1974, in Zanzibar, Tanzania, has crafted a remarkable career trajectory in the fields of trade development and public administration. Her educational foundation laid the groundwork for her extensive contributions to Tanzania's trade sector. Latifa pursued an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration (Marketing) from the College of Business Education (CBE) between 1997 and 2000. Her academic journey continued with a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Studies from the Open University of Tanzania in 2016, and she later earned an MBA in Marketing from the same institution in 2017.
Latifa's professional career began at the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, where she held various positions from 2003 to 2009. Her roles included Head of Export Trade Section and Head of the Trade Information Centre, where she planned and organized trade promotion events and disseminated vital trade information. Latifa's responsibilities extended to raising awareness of trade-related issues through radio programming and coordinating between the Board of External Trade (TanTrade) and the Ministry of Trade in Zanzibar.
In 2009, Latifa was officially transferred to the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade), where she continued to excel. Her leadership as the Zonal Manager for the Zanzibar office and later as Acting Director General of TanTrade was pivotal in enhancing Tanzania's trade promotion capabilities. During her tenure, Latifa played a crucial role in developing and implementing organizational policies, securing funding for trade initiatives, and representing Tanzania in international trade forums, including the Dubai Expo 2020. Latifa's commitment to professional development is evident in her participation in numerous international programs and workshops. She completed the International Visitors Leadership Programme (IVLP) in Washington DC, a prestigious program designed to develop future world leaders. Additionally, she underwent professional training in organizing international trade fairs in the Netherlands and participated in workshops on corporate social responsibility and personal leadership.
