During the period under review, the Directorate of Students’ Services organized an awareness seminar on HIV/AIDS, drug abuse and Hepatitis B. The seminar was held on 19th April 2024 and 73 students attended. The facilitators were Ms Grace Mwaijande, Mr Rodgers Mkuwa, Ms Agnes Ginethon and Mr Yulia Makula. Among others, the seminar covered the following subject matters:

  • Importance of Awareness and Prevention of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis as well as blood donation
  • Understanding HIV/AIDS: Facts and Myths
  • Modes of Transmission and Prevention Strategies
  • Importance of Regular Testing and Early Detection
  • Types of Hepatitis: A, B, C, D, and E
  • Modes of Transmission and Prevention Strategies
  • Importance of VCT in Managing and Preventing HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis

Students had the opportunity to ask questions and dispel myths surrounding blood donation and HIV/AIDS. These clarifications helped alleviate fears, encouraging some initially hesitant students to donate blood and VCT.
