During the period under review, the Directorate of Students' Services at Mwanza campus coordinated student and staff participation in the NHIF Stakeholders' Meeting. The meeting was held on 18th September 2024 at the TMDA building in Mwanza and was attended by two staff members, Ms. Marietha Mwendi -Social Welfare Officer and Mr. Anold Rutahiya- IT Officer, along with two student leaders, Ms. Beata Brighton -CBESO President and Mr. Sambo Timothy- Minister of Health.
Key issues discussed included:
- Expansion of student insurance benefits, with new medication packages and disease coverage, enabling students to receive tests and treatment using NHIF.
- Integration of the NHIF system with RITA and NIDA systems to improve operational efficiency.
Challenges identified:
- Limited understanding among students regarding the importance of health insurance.
- Many students lack NIDA numbers or are under 18 years old.
- Low student enrollment in the insurance scheme.
- Institutions not emphasizing health insurance sufficiently.
- Students failing to make timely insurance payments.
