Seminar on Counseling Skills for Peer Educators

During the third quarter, the Directorate of Students’ Services at Dar es salaam Campus organized a seminar on counseling skills for peer educators on 6th March 2025. A total of 196 students, including peer educators, participated in the session, which was facilitated by Dr. Faustine China, Principal Social Welfare Officer at CBE.

The seminar focused on key counseling skills, including:

  • Active Listening – Understanding and interpreting peers' concerns without judgment
  • Empathy – Recognizing and validating others' feelings
  • Rapport Building – Establishing trust and connection with peers
  • Paraphrasing and Restating – Clarifying messages to ensure accurate understanding
  • Self-Disclosure – Appropriately sharing personal experiences to foster relatability
  • Questioning Techniques – Encouraging dialogue and deeper reflection

The seminar significantly enhanced peer educators' counseling abilities, empowering them to foster a supportive and understanding environment among students.
