The Minister of Industry and Trade, Hon. Dr. Selemani Jafo (MP), has appointed the Rector of the College of Business Education (CBE), Prof. Edda Tandi Lwoga, as the Chairperson of the Committee responsible for monitoring and ensuring that foreign nationals do not engage in businesses designated for local citizens in Kariakoo, Dar es Salaam. Minister Jafo formed this committee as part of the implementation of directives from the President, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who called for an investigation to ensure that foreign nationals are not involved in businesses reserved for locals. Prof. Lwoga will lead a 15-member committee for 30 days. Among other responsibilities, the committee will oversee the issuance of business licenses to both locals and foreigners and register traders to establish a database.
Additionally, the committee comprises members from various institutions, and its composition may be expanded as needed based on emerging requirements.
