Prof. Emmanuel Munishi, Deputy Rector (Planning, Finance and Administration) of the College of Business Education (CBE), introduced the Head Table during the CBE Gender Day Ceremony shortly after the event commenced at the CBE Main Campus Grounds in Dar es Salaam on April 11, 2024.
The College of Business Education (CBE) has celebrated CBE Gender Day at the CBE Main Campus Grounds in Dar es Salaam today, April 10, 2025. The Guest of Honor at the event was the Commissioner General of Immigration (CGI), Dr. Anna Makakala.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Makakala commended the efforts and strategies implemented to promote gender equality and strengthen gender rights for students and staff at the college. She emphasized the importance of eliminating all forms of gender discrimination in education, employment, and leadership, as well as strengthening legal and social systems to prevent gender-based violence.
She also highlighted the need to encourage men to be part of the solution by participating in discussions and policies related to gender equality, economically empowering women, improving access to resource opportunities, and enhancing gender research and statistics for informed decision-making.
On her part, the Rector of the College of Business Education, Prof. Edda Tandi Lwoga, stated that the college, which has four campuses in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Mwanza, and Mbeya, has enrolled more than 22,000 students for the 2025 academic year, with 10,000 of them being women, which accounts for 46.1% of all students. She added that the college is committed to ensuring that female students receive higher education from diploma, bachelor's, master's, to doctoral levels.
She further noted that to ensure gender equality and prevent harassment, the college has established gender desks for both students and staff.
The Guest of Honor at the CBE Gender Day Ceremony, Commissioner General of Immigration (CGI), Dr. Anna Makakala, received a gift from the Rector of the College of Business Education, Prof. Edda Tandi Lwoga, at the CBE Main Campus Grounds in Dar es Salaam, on April 10, 2025.
Dr. Anna Makakala also presented gifts to staff members who successfully completed studies at various levels this year, as well as to others who made significant contributions to the college's Gender Desk.
Dr. Garvin Kweka, a Mental Health Specialist from Muhimbili National Hospital, together with Ms. Doris Mlenge, a Marketing Officer from UTT AMIS, delivered presentations during CBE Gender Day held at the CBE Main Campus Grounds in Dar es Salaam on April 10, 2025. The Guest of Honor at the event was the Commissioner General of Immigration (CGI), Dr. Anna Makakala.
Dr. Garvin Kweka provided education on mental health and its relationship with gender-related challenges. He emphasized that symptoms of mental health issues include memory loss, inability to cope with pain, and difficulty in managing one's emotions.
He further discussed preventive measures, such as reducing stress, engaging in social interactions, maintaining physical health, and finding positive coping mechanisms for emotional regulation.
Dr. Kweka also highlighted that although women globally lead in experiencing mental health challenges, men top the statistics for suicide due to such issues, as they often do not share their struggles with others.
The second presenter, Ms. Doris Mlenge, spoke about gender equality in investment and economic growth, particularly encouraging students to adopt financial discipline and develop sustainable investment habits for the future. She also emphasized that employees should establish long-term investment strategies before retirement.
