Since 2015, Joy has been an academician and researcher at the College of Business Education. Her academic background comprises a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Public Administration, both of which are conferred by Mzumbe University. Joy is a Doctoral fellow at the University of the Western Cape's Doctoral Program on Higher Education Studies (DHES), a program funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The DHES stands as a distinctive initiative, intricately examining the nexus between higher education, science, policy, and innovation, with a primary focus on the African context.

Joy's research interests encompass a wide spectrum, including Higher Education, the Knowledge Economy, and Public Administration and Management. Her commitment to scholarly pursuits is evidenced by her active participation in numerous postgraduate and international workshops and conferences, which enhanced her expertise in research design, qualitative data analysis, and scholarly writing.
